Must we suffer?

We usually let the village children use our swimmimg pool while we have our summer break but an earth tremor has cracked the lining and it's being repaired while we are away. The villagers are demanding their four week use when it's ready but we will be back in residence and I've said no. Now I'm told we being thought of as old meanies. How to placate them?
