How long do I submerge my air plant?

I just got a tiny little air plant, they're so cool-looking. The guy said to mist it often, keep it in indirect sunlight, and to submerge it weekly. After I left, I realized he didn't tell me how LONG to submerge it. An hour? The whole day? Thanks!!
