I'm trying to start a running/cardio regimen. Need some help...?

I'm trying to slim up a little bit this summer. I've been biking quite a bit since I bought a bike. But I still enjoy running. I get tired of jogging long distances, and it doesn't seem to be doing much. Would doing a jog/wind sprint interval workout be better for me? There's a track nearby that I can use. Are wind sprints better than jogging?
